Crossfade tracks: If you want to make a smooth transition from one track to another, you can use the Crossfade Tracks effect. This effect will crossfade the two tracks you have selected. And, place the track you want to fade out above the track you want to fade in.

Firstly, you have to overlap these two tracks. You can do that by positioning the start of the lower track before the end of the upper track. One can select the region you want to overlap and then apply the crossfade tracks effect.
Parameters in Crossfade tracks
Fade type: It is the first parameter in the crossfade tracks dialog box. This parameter has four options: constant gain, constant power 1, constant power 2, and custom curve.
- Constant gain is the option selected by default. It fades in the lower track, and fades out the upper track with a linear fade.
- Constant power 1 prevents dipping of volume. But, the peak level rises due to this fade type.
- Constant power 2 maintains the volume after fade. This effect is faster than the previous one.
- With a custom curve, you can manually adjust the rate of crossfading.
Custom curve: The custom curve is the next parameter in the dialog box. There is a slider that controls the curvature of the fade. To enable the effect of this slider, you have to select the fade type as the custom curve. The zero value of this slider is similar to the constant gain effect.
Fade direction: The third parameter is the fade direction.
- The automatic option will automatically detect whether to fade in or out. Generally, this effect gives the correct output. However, you can undo it if the effect is not as required.
- Another option in fade direction is alternating in/out. In this effect, the track that is the first one will fade out. If there is a second track, it will fade in. For more than two tracks, alternatively, fade out and fade in will work.
- The last option for fade direction is alternating in/ out. The track selected first will fade in for the selected region. The next track will fade out. Alternatively, fade in and fade out will go on for more than two tracks.
